How we achieve value for money

We are tremendously grateful to all our volunteers, donors, trustees and staff team for enabling the work Learn to Love to Read does supporting children’s literacy in Wandsworth.

Since we were formed as a church project in 2014, and subsequently as a registered charity from 2017, we have always strived to offer value for money to our partner schools and other organisations with which we work.

This is reflected in our five strategic pillars upon which we operate: embedded in the local community, serving the whole family, providing continuity of support, targeting the greatest need, ensuring quality delivery and measuring impact.

We have focused on building an operating model which minimises costs while enabling us to deliver a high quality of support to children.

Our staff team is small – just seven members all working part time and supported by eight trustees. All our one-to-one reading support taking place both in schools and online is carried out by our 70 trained volunteers.

We constantly strive to keep our organisational costs low. We have no offices and all staff, trustees and volunteers live within or near the London Borough of Wandsworth - where all our work takes place - which negates or minimises travel costs.

Staff all work from home and we take advantage of pro-bono work and discounted products and services sometimes offered to the charity sector.

This enables us to charge an affordable annual subscription to our partner schools covering just under 10% of our annual budget, with the remainder of our income coming from diverse streams, including grants, regular donations and fundraising activities.

Learn to Love to Read is registered in England and Wales under charity number 1175288 at St Michael's Church, 71 Wimbledon Park Road, Southfields, London SW18 5TT. We use cookies to improve your experience using this website.
