One-to-one support
Supporting children in Years 1, 2 & 3 with reading
We recruit and train volunteers (both parents within a school and others from the local community) to provide one-to-one support for children in Years 1, 2 and 3 who are struggling with learning to read. Each child receives two sessions a week from two different volunteers, each session lasting at least 20 minutes. Children will always read their school reading book, chat with the volunteer about the story and practise a tricky word or sound on the white board. There will be the opportunity to choose a non-reading scheme book to enjoy together to finish the session.
We offer reading support in person during the school day as well as via zoom after school and on Saturday mornings.
