New research from BookTrust has found that almost a quarter of parents and carers from low-income backgrounds (23%) are not sharing books with their children before their first birthday - despite the majority (95%) seeing reading as an important thing to do. Can you make a difference by becoming a regular donor and help us change these statistics? Learn to Love to Read is 10 years old this month and to celebrate our 10 years of supporting children with developing literacy skills and increasing their life chances, we are looking for 10 new donors to donate £10 (or more) a month.
Here are just two ways £10 a month can help a Wandsworth child learn to love to read:
£10 a month funds a volunteer to support 3 children to learn to love to read for a year
Every week, 60 volunteers give their time to help children who are struggling to learn to read. £10 a month will allow us to continue to change the life chances of disadvantaged children in Wandsworth.
£10 a month allows 4 families to receive a book a month for a year from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library
Thanks to the support of our funders and donors, some of the families we work with can take part in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library scheme. Every month (until their fifth birthday), a high quality book is posted to the child's address for them to keep. £10 a month for a year would enable four families to receive a book every month for a year.
Our regular donors are the lifeblood of our charity as the unrestricted funding their donations provide allows us to continue and develop our work across Wandsworth.
